Why Brookfield calls us

Brookfield residents call us for one of two reasons, and often both. The first is fire: much of the suburb and neighbouring Upper Brookfield falls within bushfire-prone mapping, and a gutter full of dry eucalypt litter is the single most reliable place for a wind-borne ember to take hold on a house. The second is water.     Eucalypt bark sheds in long strips that drape rather than settle, so they lie across a coarse guard instead of falling through or sliding off.

    Why it matters

    The draped bark catches finer litter and forms a suspended mat above the gutter, which sheds water off the roof edge — the guard is in place and the gutter still overflows.

What people ask us before booking

Does gutter guard actually help in a bushfire?

It addresses one specific risk: ember attack. Most homes lost in bushfires are ignited by wind-borne embers landing in fine fuel, and a gutter full of cured eucalypt litter is the classic example. AS 3959 requires ember-guard mesh of 2 mm aperture or finer, made from non-combustible material, for buildings on bushfire-prone land. It is one layer of a fire plan, not a substitute for one — but it removes fuel from the most exposed part of the roof.

What mesh is compliant for a bushfire-prone Brookfield block?

The standard sets a single gutter-guard requirement that applies regardless of your BAL rating: non-combustible mesh with apertures no larger than 2 mm. In practice that means metal — aluminium or stainless steel — not plastic or polymer. We fit both and will recommend stainless where exposure or longevity justifies it. If your build or renovation requires certification, tell us at assessment and we will specify accordingly.

We drink our tank water. Will the mesh keep it cleaner?

Noticeably. The bulk of what contaminates a rainwater tank arrives through the gutter — leaf, bark, blossom, insects and bird droppings — and a fine mesh stops most of it at the roof edge. You will still want a first-flush diverter and tank inlet screen; gutter protection reduces the load reaching them so they work better and are serviced less often.

Can you do the sheds and outbuildings too?

Yes, and on tank-water properties we recommend it. There is limited benefit in guarding the house roof if the shed roof feeding the same tank is still collecting bark and bird matter. We quote each roof separately so you can stage the work, but the assessment covers the whole property.

Will your installers manage a long, steep driveway?

Yes. Acreage access is routine for us across Brookfield, Upper Brookfield and Pullenvale — narrow entries, sharp grades and limited turning space included. If access genuinely constrains the job, we will raise it at assessment and plan around it rather than discovering it on installation day.

How long does an acreage installation take?

A standard single-roof home is usually a day. Acreage properties with multi-level rooflines and outbuildings more often run two to three days, depending on roof area, pitch and how much gutter cleaning is needed first. We give you a realistic schedule with the quote, and we clean the gutters before fitting mesh over them.
